"When asked to develop a yoga program, I felt it was essential for it to be informative and practical. Practical tools for everyday people, people who may not have ever thought of attempting yoga. An opportunity to learn and apply simple tools everyday.. Thanks to incredible videographer, Sam Numsen, who made it all possible!" ~ Natalie Saari
YOGA FOR EVERYDAY- Episodes running every week on Shaw TV or anytime on YouTube:
योग Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices which originated in ancient India, but are widely practiced acorss the world today. The word yoga, from the Sanskrit word yuj means to yoke or bind and is often interpreted as "union" or a method of discipline. The sage Patanjali collated the practice of yoga into the Yoga Sutra over 2,000 years ago. The Sutra is a collection of 195 statements utilized as a philosophical guidebook for yoga today. It also outlines eight limbs of yoga:
1- the yamas (restraints), 2- niyamas (observances), 3- asana (postures), 4- pranayama (breathing), 5- pratyahara (withdrawal of senses), 6- dharana (concentration), 7- dhyani (meditation), 8- samadhi (liberation)
In exploring the eight limbs, one begins by refining behaviours in the outer world, and focusing inwardly to reach this higher state of liberation, called samadhi. Today most people practicing yoga are engaged in the physical asana practice, yoga postures designed to purify the body, provide the strength and focus required for meditation. There are many different types of yoga and it is not just only for the physically fit. Yoga is accessible for all people, regardless of age or ability. It can also be a practical tool for those suffering from illness or injury.
